Guilloche Enamel Orb Pendant Watch Quality Swiss Movement
Absolutely stunning vintage Orb watch in Stirling Silver gilded with 18ct yellow gold. Decorated in pale blue guilloche enamel with no damage to the watch (please note the photo's show reflections only) this is a really beautiful piece of jewellery with a purpose.
The movement is Swiss, has 17 Rubies and is fully working and keeping perfect time 62 years later- testement to the quality of the watch. The case has full hallmarks for and is stamped Sterling Silver and Argent D'ore (Silver and Gold in French) with a duck in a circle and London import marks and a date letter of 1960.
The case is Swiss made by Swiss Watchmakers Nivia - There is a B on the top right of the duck Cartouche for Berne) See below for a little history about the company but they still seem to be going (under the name Rosa) in Switzerland.
There is a further mark L & B who were possibly the English importers.
There is some beautiful detail on this watch, the enamalling on the ball is perfect (just reflections showing on the images, it is perfect) with none missing and no cracks. I love the little leaf cup finial on the top of the watch which holds the chain (there is a mark on this but I can't quite make it out).
The chain is 83cm long and has 10 evenly spaced lozenge shaped plaques ( one of the lozenge has a very very tiny amount of enamel damage - not missing just a crack and discolouration - see image ) decorated in the same pale blue guilloch enamel throughout the chain. The chain is stamped 800 and was originally gilded but this has worn back to the silver.
The design dates back to the late 1800's Boucher made a few very similar I have them over the course of my life but there are less and less around.
The chain is 83cm long
The ball is 2cm in diameter.
