Product information

Antique Dutch Blood Coral Bracelet

Fine undyed Mediterranean Coral bracelet with a 14ct yellow gold & Coral clasp.
This is such a lovely thing, the coral beads are a deep red colour and there are five strands in total.

This is Dutch in origin having the earlier Netherlands rounded Oak leaf stamp/control mark for 14ct gold (used between 1852 - 1906) on the ball shaped fittings.
The clasp itself is set with three cabochon pieces of Coral in claw mounts having surrounding wire filigree decoration.
This bracelet is probably a Dutch regional piece and is Circa 1870

The beads are a fabulous colour and are of natural undyed Coral.
It has been professionally re-strung using the traditional method on red silk and using real gold wire for the end "crimping".

It comes in the box shown.

Weight is: 43g

Bracelet size is: Innner Circumference is 7 1/2" (19cm) Width is 1" (2.5cm) (measuring the clasp and the rear of the bracelet.)
The beads are approximately 5mm (0.198")

I have tested the clasp and the fittings and they are actually testing as 18ct, the safety chain tests at 15ct.

Coral
The Victorians loved Coral Jewellery, Napoleons campaign and the subsequent mania for everything Italian helped it to the height of fashion in the 1860’s, so much so that one of the most renowned Jewellers of the time was given a medal by the King of Italy for his services to the coral trade.
Coral was also thought to have protective powers over evil and disease –especially towards children, it was often worn by expectant mothers and given to children encased in a rattle or teether.
