SOLD Amazing Original Art Deco Sautoir
Egyptian Revival, Long flapper Sautoir in Early Plastic (Galalith / Casein*) and brass. This fabulous necklace was inspired by the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 - everyone was fascinated by the discovery and everyone wanted a piece of it. Jewellery manufacturers were no exception and took advantage of the growing craze for anything Egyptian. Scarab Beetles were featured on necklaces, bracelets and earrings.
This amazing early 20's necklace imitates carved ivory / bone with cream Galalith "chain" and rod shaped links, these are followed by long black faux seed pods connected with moulded brown scarab beetles. The necklace terminates in a black rectangular plaque having a rivetted central Scarab with brass foxtail chain suspensions.
Condition: Some splits on the rings but all secure - Chip on reverse of rectangular plaque but not seen from front. General aging.
Size: Top of necklace to bottom of chain is 21 1/2" / 55cm - size of plaque is 4.4cm x 3cm
