Substantial Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Lovers Knot Brooch C.1860's

Product code: M800

Product information

Stunning & Substantial Victorian Brooch measuring just short of 2 1/2" /6cm wide and in the form of a lovers knot. Beautifully hand engraved, it is in fantastic condition with no dings or dents which is probably due to the heavy guage of silver used in it's manufacture. This is a high quality piece and not like that churned out after the Nevada Silver Load.

Victorians loved symbolism and the knot form was a particular favourite used in pieces of jewellery and sent to lovers. This wonderful piece of jewellery history would fasten a Pashmina on the shoulder beautifully - especially as it has a very secure clasp with a long pin that extends beyond the piece itself* - an indication of age and dating it to the middle of the 19th Century.
weight: 27g Material: Sterling Silver - Acid tested Comes in a high quality, hard cased, double door vintage style presentation box. M800

*Extended pins on brooches are often a good indicator of period. The pins were made longer and extended beyond the edge of a brooch to accommodate the thicker Victorian fabrics that were pre 1880's
