German Jewellery of the Period I love the Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) Jewellery produced in Pforzheim, Germany around the 1900's. This small town, on the outskirts of the Black Forrest, became the centre of the German Jewellery industry. An industry that employed more than 14,000 men and women producing some of the most fabulous jewellery of the period. It was exported all over the world and many pieces were sold here in the UK through wholesalers like Murrle Bennett & Co, who supplied retailers like Liberty's of London. One of the many firms producing stunning Jewellery in Pforzheim was Theodor Fahrner. Theodor Fahrner Junior took over the business upon his father's death in 1883. Around 1900 they began to enjoy real commercial success and this was in part, due to the company actively collaborating with numerous artists, especially the Mathilde Denholm Darmstadt Artists Colony whose members included Joseph Olbrich. Theodor Fahrner Jnr died in 1919 and Gustav Braendle acquired the company in the same year, continuing to run the business, calling it Gustav Braendle, Theodor Fahrner Nachf.
